Rivals question new teams' right to vote

Thursday 9th July 2009

Just hours after FOTA walked out on a meeting with the FIA, one team insider has confessed that "most" of the existing teams aren't in favour of the new outfits having a say in the regulations.

On Wednesday, the FOTA eight attended a Sporting Working Group that was chaired by Charlie Whiting and also attended by Williams, Force India and the three new 2010 teams; USF1, Campos Meta and Manor Grand Prix.

FOTA, however, walked out on the meeting after they were informed by Whiting that they were "not currently entered into the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship and have no voting rights in relation to the technical and sporting regulations thereof."

But while FOTA may have been told they have no right to vote on the regulations, at least some of the eight members in the organisations are question the right of the three new teams to vote.

"Max (Mosley) really seems to have gone out of his way to wind everybody up on this issue," a team insider told The Guardian.

"Spelling out that the new teams should have a voice over the new rules was extremely provocative. Most of us think that they should not be allowed a vote on these matters, although by all means let them attend the meetings and listen to what is being discussed."
